The Old Town of Kotor has succeeded in preserving its original form, looking like a typical town of the 12th and 14th century. The asymmetric structure of the narrow streets and squares, combined with the numerous valuable monuments of medieval architecture, contributed to Kotor being placed on UNESCO's "World natural and cultural inheritance" list. The cultural inheritance of this town is enriched by the unique architectural styles and atmosphere. The fortification system of Kotor, which protects it from the sea, is actually a wall 4.5 km long, 20 m high and 15 m wide, and is preserved for its historical significance.
The cultural richness of Kotor is made priceless by its treasury which hides some significant cultural monuments like: Watch Tower (VIII century), Sent Triphun's Cathedral (XII century), Church of Sveti Luka (XII century), Prince's Palace (XVII century), Church of Sveta Marija (XII century), Church of Lady of Health (XV century), and Napoleon's Theater (XIX century). The Old Town also contains numerous palaces like: Bizanti, Buca, Pima, Grgurin, in which today is the Maritime museum.
